Escort Solo S3 Review

Pros & Cons:
Pros:
Portability! Easily transport it & extra batteries with the included travel case. Battery life is good and has an autopower feature for conservation.

Cons:
The suction cup mount included isn't the best, an aftermarket suction or clip mount is recommended. Having to remember to turn it off or keep it in autopower mode.

The Escort Solo S3 is a cordless radar detector equipped to detect all X, K, SuperWide Ka, laser detection (both front and rear). Small and sleek, it's ideal for drivers of multiple vehicles or those that just prefer the clear and open dashboard that only a cordless unit can provide. The Solo S3 provides improved range and reduced false alarms from prior models.

You can easily mount your Solo S3 anywhere on the windshield. Clip it to your sun visor and it could pass for a simple garage door opener. Toss it back in its carry case and have it ready for any car, rental car, or motorcycle you might be driving that day. The elimination of cords is probably its biggest takeaway, and it has a surprisingly long battery life. Under moderate use, expect to change them out maybe 2-3 times a year.

A Suction cup mount, travel case (with storage for extra batteries), and a set of batteries are included with your purchase. An aftermarket clip or suction mount would be wise to go along with this. The alarms are adequately loud, and there is volume control and auto-mute functionality. The OLED display lights up big and bright to grab your attention when it catches a signal.

An autosensitivity mode is available to help filter out false positives, plus highway and city settings. In addition, you can toggle radar bands on/off. When alerted, the display will indicate the type of radar band as well as a bar-graph showing signal strength. An earphone jack is available on the front right side; this is useful when traveling on a motorcycle or with a car full of noisy kids. The Solo S3 can also display SWS messages, but this is switched off by default.

Overall, this is a great addition to Escort's product line. Not everyone wants cords obstructing their view or maybe they just need the power outlet to charge a phone instead. The Escort Solo S3 gives you advanced range, power, and the latest radar detection to give you peace of mind. Amazon is listing these for under $250 at the time of this writing.
